Scientific fellowships (non clinical)
To provide an opportunity for post-doctoral scientists to become independent researchers specialising in the breast cancer field and to undertake research of high quality.
Candidates will write their own application for support of an independent project and must have conducted independent research in the field of breast cancer and wish to build on their history and reputation in this arena, deepening their knowledge and experience. Candidates will be expected to have a significant publication record in their chosen field. Campaign recognises the importance of such individuals to the national research structure.
Applicants must have at least three years post-doctoral experience, a solid track record in a relevant area and intend to maintain a long-term interest in breast cancer research.
Each candidate should nominate a supervisor who will be asked to carefully consider the appropriateness of the project to the candidate’s career development and provide a responsible statement as to the candidate’s prospects for gaining tenured position with the host institute, or indicate how they see the candidate’s career developing outside the host institution.
In addition to the scientific merit of the proposed research, Campaign will also consider the potential of the candidate to become an independent and competitive researcher, the quality of the environment in which the award is to be held, and the support provided by the host institution to help develop the candidate's career in research.
The current level is set at a maximum of £450,000 for each five-year award to support salary, technical support and consumables.
Grant application procedure
Scientific fellowships are awarded in May each year.
