Find out how Campaign's policy work impacts breast cancer research
Breast Cancer Campaign actively works to raise awareness of breast cancer issues to influence the UK and Irish governments and policy-makers on behalf of people with breast cancer and researchers.
Campaign aims to be the leading specialist in breast cancer research across the UK and Ireland and will work to raise awareness of breast cancer issues to support our future research.
Breast cancer must remain high on the political health agenda in terms of awareness, prevention, research, treatment and care.
Almost 46,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK, and over 2,300 are diagnosed in Ireland. This makes it the number one health issue for women.
Basic and clinical research should be supported and there is a need to make sure that developments in the laboratory are translated into immediate patient benefits.
To do this, current resources must be re-assessed so it takes less time from laboratory to licensing of drugs and subsequent NHS guidance.
There must be a framework for the recruitment and retention of academic and clinical scientists in the UK and Ireland.
There must be adequate reward, opportunity and stability in these careers to attract the best people and bring the number of people working in science and engineering in line with that of other countries.
Our public affairs team campaigns to influence policy on these key issues within Westminster, the Scottish Parliament, the National Assembly of Wales, the Northern Ireland Assembly and the Parliament of Ireland.
