Title

A role for Notch signalling in human breast cancer?

Synopsis

This project is a continuation of a previous Breast Cancer Campaign grant investigating molecules called Notch proteins to see if they play a role in breast cancer. If a link can be established this will help with the development of new breast cancer drugs and treatments.

Aims & Goals

"The work will allow us to determine whether components of the Notch signalling pathway can be used as a prognostic marker for breast cancer. Secondly, we will be able to determine whether Notch signalling is an appropriate target for therapeutic interventions in the treatment of breast cancer."

Updates

At a recent visit to the University of Manchester PhD student At a recent visit to the University of Manchester PhD student Spyros Stylianouis gave an update on his research into a protein called Notch, which is found in high levels in breast cancer. Spyros has discovered that high levels of Notch makes breast cancer cells resistant to certain types of chemotherapy drugs. Spyros hopes this knowledge can be used to treat breast cancer more effectively.
