Title

The role of protein kinase B in breast cancer

Synopsis

Some tumour cells have evolved enhanced protection mechanisms that allow them to survive under conditions where normal cells would die. Understanding the function of protein kinase B (PKB) - a critical protein that promotes cell survival - in breast cancer will allow an assessment of its potential use as a prognostic marker and as a target for novel therapies

Aims & Goals

With this knowledge I believe we are now approaching the stage where it should be possible to develop new drugs to block these proteins and thereby slow the growth or even kill breast tumour cells.
