Functional characterization and role of the SLIT-ROBO gene family in breast cancer development
With previous Breast Cancer Campaign funding Professor Latif has discovered a group of genes that normally prevent tumours from forming often stops working in the early stages of breast cancer development. These genes can be made to work again when treated by with particular drugs in the laboratory. Some of these drugs are also undergoing clinical trials in cancer patients. With this new funding Professor Latif wants to discover more about how and why these genes stop working in the first place.
This work may help to design new breast cancer treatments and aid in early breast cancer diagnosis in the future.
