The thioredoxin and related redox systems as targets in breast cancer
Dr Martin will study a group of molecules called redox proteins, members of the thioredoxin family in particular which are thought to help breast cancer cells survive current therapies.
By examining breast tumour specimens he hopes to discover whether these proteins play a role in the development of resistance to treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and whether novel drugs can sensitize breast cancer cells to such therapies.
