Transforming growth factor-B signalling in breast cancer.
Professor Metcalfe’s project aims to see if it is possible to predict an individual’s risk of breast cancer by looking at mutations in a particular set of genes. He will also investigate whether these mutations lead to patients redeveloping breast cancer after being treated with the drug tamoxifen.
We will identify variant forms of genes that occur in the UK population that affect the genetic risk of developing breast cancer. We will also identify mutations that have occurred in breast tumours that have become resistant to tamoxifen treatment that may contribute to resistance.
