The role of 6 integrin expression on myoepithelial cell function in DCIS
Professor Jones will look at a molecule called anb6 integrin which she believes helps cancer cells change from a non-invasive to an invasive form.
"Our aim is to understand the factors controlling progression of in-situ to invasive disease. DCIS is now being detected much more frequently and is therefore an important therapeutic problem. Little is understood about the factors controlling progression to invasion. We have identified a molecule that is specifically up-regulated in DCIS and has the potential to promote this progression. Our aim is to establish its role in culture models. If shown to be involved, it could provide a novel target for therapy".
