Title

Initial assessment of MSF expression in breast cancer: association with angiogenesis markers

Synopsis

The results obtained in the proposed study should ultimately provide an improved means of predicting the future course of breast cancer (prognosis), thereby enabling doctors to tailor treatment effectively and avoid unnecessary side effects, and identify a novel target chemical (MSF) for therapeutic intervention.

Aims & Goals

"The aim of this study is to assess the pattern of MSF expression in breast tumours at presentation, determine its association with previously identified surrogate markers of angiogenesis, and ascertain its prognostic significance".

Updates

In their final report Professor Seth Schor and Stephane Perrier at the University of Dundee have found that breast cancer patients who have high levels of a protein called MSF have a poorer survival rate. Professor Schor hopes that looking at the MSF levels in breast cancer patients will help clinicians select the most appropriate treatments.
