The Breast Cancer Campaign Tutor at the Royal College of Surgeons
The Breast Cancer Campaign Tutor at the Royal College of Surgeons As part of our determination to bring the results of research as swiftly as possible to those who will benefit, in 1998 Breast Cancer Campaign Trustees awarded a two-year grant worth £22,000 to the Royal College of Surgeons. The grant was used to fund a tutor to train senior registrars with an interest in breast disease and consultant surgeons wanting to update their knowledge or improve their techniques of reconstruction. Breast Cancer Campaign has now agreed to support the position for a further two and a half years at a total of £27,500. The current level of training within the subspecialty of breast cancer, combined with a shortfall in the number of Breast Surgeons coming up the surgical training ladder, is reason for grave concern. The development of specific training programmes together with the funding of a Breast Cancer Campaign Breast Tutor is a significant step forward in reducing this critical problem.
