Getting better care for people with breast cancer

Cancer Strategy in England: the Cancer Reform Strategy
In December 2007, the Government published the Cancer Reform Strategy in England. This updated the previous Cancer Plan.

Breast Cancer Campaign welcomes the Strategy, which provides a comprehensive report of how cancer services should be designed and reformed to take account of developments in cancer care and the challenges that lie ahead.

Cancer Strategy in Scotland
The Scottish Government has started a national discussion on future priorities for cancer care in Scotland. This will give patients, carers, healthcare professionals and the public the chance to reflect on the progress made in recent years. They will also be able to acknowledge the challenges that remain and help the Scottish Government focus activity on improving services.

Campaign has submitted our views to the Scottish Government’s Better Cancer Care consultation. We believe that together we must ensure that cancer research remains a priority in the political arena in order to ensure that the benefits are transferred to patients as quickly as possible.

Cancer Strategy in Wales
In March 2007, the Assembly Government provided an additional £4.5million for each of the regional cancer networks to support the implementation of the Designed to Tackle Cancer strategy.

Campaign will monitor the implementation of this policy to ensure the benefits outlined in the strategy are successfully provided.

Cancer Strategy in Northern Ireland
The Chief Medical Officer has requested that the Northern Ireland Cancer Network support the development of the Cancer Prevention, Treatment and Care service framework by August 2008.

Campaign will seek to contribute to any consultation process that arises for this cancer strategy.
