Breast Cancer Campaign has announced it will be inviting scientists in the field of breast cancer research in the Republic of Ireland to apply for funding for the very first time. This latest step represents a major development for the Charity and a great opportunity to tap into the expertise of breast cancer scientists in Ireland.
The Charity currently funds 95 projects throughout the UK worth around £11.6 million, £700,000 of which is currently funding projects in Northern Ireland.
Over the past 12 years the Charity has awarded 183 grants with a total value of over £18.5 million to universities, medical schools and research institutes across the UK.
The Charity will meet key research institutions this week in Dublin and Cork (Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th) to outline its plans and encourage applications for grants from the Republic of Ireland.
Pamela Goldberg, Chief Executive Breast Cancer Campaign said, “Thanks to real advances in breast cancer research we have seen significant improvements in diagnosis, treatment and survival. If we are to continue to make progress we must fund talented, experienced and motivated scientists to conduct life changing research.
“The talent pool in the Republic of Ireland has been identified as important to the future of breast cancer research and we look forward to a long and productive partnership.
“Breast cancer research is saving lives and our mission is to beat breast cancer by continuing to fund world class research projects to keep up the momentum of bringing us closer to a cure,” continued Pamela Goldberg.
