This trek is rated as an ‘extreme challenge.’
The group will be between 15 and 30 people.
You will be camping on the mountain in two person tents.
The days will be warm and bright but as soon as the sun sets, the temperature drops radically and is often well below 0ºc.
At 19,344ft (5,896m), Mt Kilimanjaro is the highest freestanding mountain in the world, and one of the largest volcanoes ever to break through the Earth's crust. Your climb starts in the rainforests of the Lemosho Glades and heads upwards as you acclimatise on Shira Plateau. You’ll continue via the beautiful Southern Flank, Barranco Wall and Barafu Route to the summit, taking in views of Mt Meru and the plains far below. Acclimatisation walks are offered to help you adjust to the altitude.
During the days you'll rise higher and higher, looking down on a sea of clouds. 96 per cent of all trekkers reach the summit, due to the carefully planned itinerary. However the trek is tough and you shouldn’t under-estimate the challenge ahead! To reach the summit, you will have to rise at around midnight. You will tackle the scree slopes to Stella Point, before continuing around the rim to the highest point, Uhuru Peak. With a 3,600ft ascent, 7,200ft descent, and 12 to 15 hours walking, victory day demands a lot!
