Breast Cancer Campaign comments on the announcement that Afinitor is now available for UK patients with the most common form of advanced breast cancer.

Baroness Delyth Morgan, Chief Executive of Breast Cancer Campaign, said: “Many women with the most common form of advanced breast cancer are faced with few treatment options after they become resistant to anti hormone treatments such as aromatase inhibitors, so we welcome any treatments which give them greater choice and which have the potential to prolong and improve their lives.

This is the first time this kind of drug has been used in the treatment of advanced breast cancer and is a significant development, and we hope to see this being made available to eligible patients in the UK through future approval by NICE.”
